Selling a Group Buy by DM? Business Rules in Korea | 공구 하려면 사업자 필요해?

Followers asking for a group buy (공구)? Can you just sell by DM? 🛒

In Korea, once you sell repeatedly — even through Instagram DMs or a link in bio — you are running a business. Two registrations matter. 👀

• ✔Business registration (사업자등록) → apply within 20 days of starting to sell, at the tax office or Hometax. Late or none → a 1% penalty tax on sales
• ✔Online seller report (통신판매업 신고) → filed with your city/district office or Gov24
• ✔Exempt from the online seller report → under 50 sales last year, or a simplified taxpayer (간이과세자)
• ✔Even if exempt → e-commerce rules still apply: customers can cancel within 7 days of receiving the item 📦
• ✔Show your seller info → name, contact and refund policy on the sales page

📝 Tip: a one-off resale of your own used item is different from a group buy you run again and again. When in doubt, register first.
